Heather Zeo, the 36-year-old North Penn High School math teacher who is accused of having sex with one of her students, was rearrested Friday and charged with tampering with evidence, corruption of minors and obstruction of justice.

Zeo already was facing a third-degree felony count of endangering the welfare of a child and four misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors when she has her Montgomery County Court hearing Sept. 2.

All of those charges were held over for trial following a preliminary hearing July 15.

Now, Zeo will face three new charges that stem from testimony given by one of her students during that hearing.

Zeo has a preliminary hearing on the new charges scheduled for July 30 at 11 a.m. before District Judge Harold Borek of Lansdale.

All charges are misdemeanors.

Zeo and her husband, Phillip, had no comment Friday afternoon following her video arraignment at the Towamencin Police Station.

According to the criminal complaint, during Zeo’s July 15 preliminary hearing, police learned that one of the juvenile witnesses who Zeo allegedly had sexual conversations with was told by Zeo to delete their electronic communications.

The teen testified that Zeo told him to delete messages sent to him from her, police said. He stated the he was called on a cell phone by Zeo on or about May 11. During their discussion, Zeo instructed him to delete any messages that she had sent to him.

The student told police that Zeo was concerned about the messages as a result of a North Penn School District investigation.

Police obtained the teen’s phone records and discovered Zeo called the teen twice during the week of May 11 to May 15. The teen told police the phone conversation with Zeo occurred during that period.

On July 20, police interviewed the juvenile regarding the destruction of evidence.

According to the criminal complaint, the teen told police he talked with Zeo over the phone during the week of May 11, and that Zeo called him on his cell phone to talk.

Zeo instructed the 17-year-old to delete the messages she had sent him, according to the affidavit. The teen told police that Zeo would call him from different phone numbers, including one she had called him from multiple times before, police said.

Police said the actions were an obstruction of justice and tampering with documents to undermine the investigation.

At Zeo’s July 15 hearing, Assistant District Attorney Kate McGill said they became aware of new information at the hearing, and they would be looking into it.

At the time, McGill said there could be a potential tampering of evidence charge against Zeo in relation to testimony of one of the victims.

If convicted, Zeo faces up to seven years in prison or a $15,000 fine for the endangerment charge, and up to five years in prison or a $10,000 fine for each corruption charge, according to Borek.
