HILLTOWN — A 69-year-old man was arrested after an investigation of an incident in which he allegedly inappropriately touched a 5-year-old child in the self-checkout line at Walmart, Hilltown Township Police Department said.

Officers were called to the store in the 1500 block of Bethlehem Pike on March 27 after the child's mother said she and the child were standing in the self-checkout line when she heard a man make a sound behind her and saw her daughter standing straight up with a terrified look on her face and a man near the child, Lt. Christian Browne and Detective Louis Bell wrote in the affidavit of probable cause in the case. The child told her mother the man had touched her "private parts," police said.

The man had left the store before officers arrived, but surveillance video showed him, police said.

During the investigation, he was identified as Gregory Alan Gottlob of the 800 block of Manor Drive in Chalfont, police said.

When he was questioned, he said he goes to Walmart from time to time and that the surveillance images were of him, according to the affidavit.

He seemed deep in thought during questioning about the incident before saying, "It's coming back to me in pieces," and repeating several times what he had done, the affidavit said.

A preliminary arraignment on charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age was held June 14 before Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage, New Britain, online court information shows.

Gottlob was taken to Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail of 10 percent of $500,000, the information shows.
