Republican Todd Polinchock is the new Pennsylvania House of Representatives member from the 144th District.
Unofficial counts on the Bucks County website the night of the election showed Polinchock with 15,437 votes to Democrat Meredith Buck's 14,830.
Polinchock, a retired United States Navy commander, Realtor and small business owner, said in answer to a questionnaire during the campaign that he would bring "a perspective that's grounded in common sense" to Harrisburg.
He said he was running for office because, "I want to protect taxpayers from reckless government spending and rising taxes. As a Realtor, it's important to me that we ensure Pennsylvanians can achieve the American Dream through home ownership. Also, I want to work to make our schools safe and a launchpad for any opportunity our children wish to pursue."
Buck said she has used her career as a nurse and attorney to help the most vulnerable.
The towns in the 144th District are Chalfont, Dublin, Hilltown, New Britain Borough, New Britain Township, Silverdale, the Bucks County portion of Telford and Warrington.
The seat had been held since 2001 by Republican Kathy Watson, who did not run for re-election this year.
