PERKASIE — This year's checkered flag first place finishers in the Perkasie All-American Soap Box Derby presented by the Indian Valley Soap Box Association are Alex Spisak in the super stock division and Elijah Bleazard in the stock division.
That means the two of them and their families are headed for the First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, the week of July 14-20.
This year's Perkasie race, held on S. 9th Street, was on June 1.
"It was a great event this year! We had a great turnout, the weather was great, the races were all run clean. A great job by the Race Director, Volunteers and IVSBA Board," IVSBA President Marc DeRosa wrote in an email.

This year's winner of the Courtney Isabella Sportsmanship Award is Christian Barndt. The award carries a $1,000 scholarship for post-high school education.
