PERKASIE — The video from a home surveillance system shows a man walking up the driveway and onto a pavement, then going out of view of the camera as he approaches the house.
The sound of a barking dog is then heard and the man runs across the yard and a flower bed before running back down the driveway and out of view of the camera.
The incident happened around noon on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at a home in the 400 block of Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, Perkasie Borough Police Department said in a Facebook posting asking for help identifying the man. He was described as a light-skinned male in jean shorts, red and black sneakers, with a hooded, light gray sweatshirt. A photo of the man, whose face cannot be seen, was also posted.
The homeowner reported the person had tried the back door, police said.
"If you see something suspicious please call Perkasie PD at 215-257-6876. If you know who this person is please contact us," the department said on the Facebook posting.
There is currently increased foot traffic in that area because of the bridge closure on Main Street in Sellersville, as well as people who walk to appointments at businesses on Lawn Avenue, the posting said.
The police did not post the surveillance video, but one of the commenters on the post put the video up.
The man had not been identified as of Sept. 6, Perkasie Borough Police Department Acting Chief Russ Closs said.
No other similar incidents had been reported, he said.
With surveillance systems getting better and costing less, more people have the systems, he said.
In this case, the system notified the homeowner about the incident, he said.
"If it hadn't been for that system, we would've never known that was happening," Closs said.
