EAST FALLS >> The Academy of the Assumption, Ravenhill, held its annual all-school reunion June 10 on the current campus of Thomas Jefferson University, East Falls.
The reunion brought back 100 alumnae dating back to the Class of 1940 and including the final Class of 1976. Sisters of the Assumption came from as far away as the Philippines to be a part of the celebration. The Rev. James T. McGuinn of St. John’s in Manayunk officiated at the annual Mass in the former chapel. Following the service, a brunch was held in the mansion.
The property on School House Lane was the home of the Religious of the Assumption’s boarding school for upper class girls, which later became a K-12 girl’s school named Ravenhill Academy. It is best known for its most famous attendee, Grace Kelly. In 1982, the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, today known as Thomas Jefferson University, purchased Ravenhill Mansion and the school, along with its surrounding 27 acres.
