The Friends of the Wissahickon are celebrating the 95th year of their stewardship over the Wissahickon Valley Park.
On Saturday they hosted a Super Mega Volunteer Service Day at 10 different trailheads throughout the park to mark the anniversary milestone. Hundreds of community activists, who treasure the beauty and history of the park, showed up to lend their support for the FOW's environmental initiatives .
The task on hand for many of the volunteer teams, under the guidance of FOW staff, was to clean up trash and recyclable items along the trails that might otherwise find its way into the Wissahickon waterway. Other volunteers cleared invasive plant species or planted native trees and flowers to spruce up various entrances around the park.
