The IHM Steelers defeated Our Lady of Calvary from the Far Northeast on Saturday at Arrow Field at Henry Avenue and Walnut Lane.
The Steelers opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 65-yard touchdown run by James Kuneck.
The defense held the Calvary offense in check for the entire first half, allowing no points.
The Steelers received the ball at halftime and scored on the initial possession with a seven-minute drive that was capped with another James Kuneck rushing touchdown of 4 yards. The extra point rushing attempt by Chazz Middleton was successful, making the score 13-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Steelers defense again stymied the Calvary offense, allowing no points. This was the first Steelers shutout in three years.
The defense included Christopher Schullere, Dan Daly, Brandon Cornner, Tamir Schullere, Connor Leahy, James Kuneck, Chaz Middleton, Timothy Tarpey, Davin Barnett, Patrick Grady and Antonio Stephens. Key defensive plays were also made down the stretch by Justin Drew.
The Steelers’ offense added a late fourth-quarter touchdown provided by fullback Chaz Middleton, making the score 19-0.
Quarterback Dan Buckley played a clean game without any turnovers.
The Steelers will be at home Saturday, Oct. 15, at 3:30 p.m. at Arrow Field against Corpus Christi, the CYO runner-up last season.
