HARLEYSVILLE — Peaceful Living is pleased to announce that Jan Foderaro was chosen to be this year’s “Belonging Animator” at this year’s Celebration of Belonging event, held in Harleysville on September 18.
“When considering the person we would like to honor each year,” explained Peaceful Living CEO Leland Sapp, “we ask ourselves who exemplifies our mission of creating belonging, who has a proven heart for service, and who has gone above and beyond to include people of all abilities and backgrounds. Jan immediately came to mind.”
Although Foderaro’s professional work history as a Registered Nurse is exemplary in itself (the heart of her career was spent as an RN at Hershey Medical Center for nine years, and as an instructor for Penn State’s Nursing Program), her work as a volunteer is even more accomplished.
Foderaro has served on several boards as a volunteer and chairperson, including Peaceful Living’s. She has also volunteered at Salford Mennonite Church (where she attends), Grand View Hospital, Penn View Christian School (Dock Academy), Keystone Opportunity Center, Eastern PA Mediation Center, and Indian Creek Foundation — where she met someone that would change her life forever.
The late Annie Wilford and Foderaro were introduced at the Indian Creek Foundation, and developed a cherished friendship that lasted 26 years.
“They were looking for volunteers to pair up as friends, and little did I know how much my life would change the day I met Annie. She taught me about acceptance, and unconditional love, and what the truly important things in this world are — all for just my presence. Any honor I receive at the event will also belong to Annie."
It is the second year for the Celebration of Belonging, which brings together community partners, friends, and family who believe in Peaceful Living’s mission of creating belonging for men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“We look forward to hosting our event for many years to come,” said Sapp. “This year, it will be our privilege to honor Jan for her tireless dedication to creating belonging in both her home and community.”
