SOUDERTON — This year's Souderton Community Night Out is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Souderton Community Park.

"It showcases the Souderton Police Department. It showcases the first responders from this area. It showcases public service from the entire county — and then we're having a car show on top of it," said Souderton Borough Police Chief James Leary.

Detective Joseph Rudner and Dianna Fields, the department's administrative assistant, are the coordinators of the event, Leary said.

In addition to the moonbounce that is usually at Community Night Out, there will be an obstacle course this year, Fields said.

There will also be a face painter, she said.

Downtown Scoop will be bringing its mobile little cottage selling ice cream, she said.

The wives of the Souderton police officers will again be having waffles and ice cream, she said.

DarkSky on Demand, which is associated with the Franklin Institute's planetarium, will also be on hand, she said.

"They have big telescopes where you can view the constellations," Fields said.

Souderton Mennonite Church will be at Community Night Out with soft pretzels, she said.

"There are raffles going on throughout the evening," she said.

Raffle items include six bikes, a Weber grill, televisions, a leaf blower and an inflatable kayak, she said.

"We have a number of gift certificates to local restaurants" in the raffle, she said.

People bringing non-perishable food items for the Keystone Opportunity Center food bank, which was hit hard this year, receive a raffle ticket for each item they bring, she said.

"If they bring 20 cans, they get 20 tickets," Fields said. Raffle tickets may also be purchased, she said.

The Community Night Out will also have a dunk tank, she said.

Four fire companies — from Souderton, Telford, Harleysville and Tylersport — will be there, she said.

Police dog units from the Abington Township and Montgomery Township police departments will also be on hand, she said.

"Action Karate will be there doing a demonstration," Fields said.

There will also be Irish dancers, she said.

The Mini Pill Car, where people can turn in unused drugs, will be there, she said.

Cub Scout Pack 401, which is one of the groups meeting at the Scout Cabin in the park, will be at Community Night Out with popcorn, she said.

Richter's Drafting and Office Supply will be there with its document shredding equipment, she said.

There will be 10 totes spread around the park that documents can be put into for shredding, she said.

The rain date for the Souderton Community Night Out, if needed, will be Thursday, Aug. 15, Leary said.
