CHESTNUT HILL >> One month after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., students across the country walked out of class at 10 a.m. March 14 for the National Student Walkout.

Working with the NFA campus ministry office, seventh- and eighth-grade Norwood-Fontbonne Academy staff and students participated in this movement with an approach that reflected the school’s vision. They gathered in the Sister James Anthony Gymnasium for a prayer service before “walking out” and pausing at NFA’s Peace Pole for 17 seconds, honoring the 17 victims in silence. Students vowed to perform an act promoting peace and kindness using the number 17 to power that act.
