PHOENIXVILLE — Seamless Sewing Arts Ltd., a sewing and quilting boutique, announces a new exhibition of textile works by California artist Gina Gilbert.

Gilbert is currently living in the Phoenixville area due to the COVID-19 emergency in her home state.

“Gina Gilbert, originally from the East Coast, came to eastern Pennsylvania to visit her son when COVID-19 struck. Uncomfortable with returning to St. Luis Obispo, Calif., she decided to relocate for the foreseeable future.

A prolific artist in many media, Gilbert’s work in textiles, especially as a quilter, inspires us with its creative use of vintage materials, childlike wonder, and gentle humor, ” noted Seamless Sewing Arts owner Denise Martin.

The three works, currently on display through Jan. 31, in the Seamless Gallery, showcase Gilbert’s skill in integrating textiles, including old drapery/upholstery fabrics, yarns and threads and printed fabric.

Combining several techniques — piecing, appliqué, hand and machine stitching, and her own drawing transfer method — results in rich layering that begs the viewer to come closer.

“I have a passion for humor, knowledge, and meaning,” says Gilbert.

She finds these qualities especially in children’s original artwork, around which Gilbert builds her quilts using her own transfer method.

The Seamless Galley exhibits work of local artists, particularly textiles and quilting. Exhibitions change monthly.

Works on display are featured in the In the Gallery section of the shop’s website: https://www.seamlesssewingarts.com/pages/featured-artist-gina-gilbert-1.
