Lansdale council names Detective Sgt. Mike Trail to be acting police chief effective July 31

Lansdale police Detective Sgt. Mike Trail speaks to borough council and residents during council’s July 19 meeting, after council voted unanimously to make him the department’s acting chief as of July 31 2017.

The events surrounding the death of Mr. Floyd while in police custody are deeply disturbing to me and should be of grave concern to all Americans.

The actions of the officer(s) were so far outside our training, and protocol, to shock the conscience of anyone who watched the disturbing video. I laud the Minneapolis Police Department for their prompt termination of the involved officers and today's arrest of the officer who took Mr. Floyd's life.

The Lansdale Police Department has made huge investments to build trust and legitimacy with every member of the community regardless of race, color, creed, nationality, or sexual identity and gender orientation. Yesterday, I personally spoke with community leaders, to include the President of the Ambler Branch of the NAACP to express my outrage at this injustice.

The Lansdale Police Department will continue our efforts to earn back the trust of the community which was lost because of this horrific event and we send our deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Floyd. I ask members of our community to keep the Floyd family, and our grieving nation, in your thoughts and prayers during these difficult times.
