Officers on some local police departments are again looking a little hairier than usual this month.
"Officers generally have to follow strict rules about facial hair, but the rules have been relaxed this month so that officers can participate in No-Shave November, a national movement that encourages men to raise awareness and funding for cancer related charities, including Fight Colorectal Cancer, the Prevent Cancer Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital," a Perkasie Borough release said.
Donations to officers or the team can be made at https://www.no-shave.org/team/PerkasiePolice. The Perkasie officer who raises the most money will win a gift card donated by The Perk restaurant and a clean shave from Modern Male in Sellersville.
The Perkasie department is also collecting non-perishable food items and men's grooming products for Pennridge FISH. Those donations may be brought to the Perkasie Borough Police Department at 311 S. 9th Street, Perkasie, or to the Perkasie or Sellersville borough offices.
Local kids should remember to say hi to the Perkasie officers when they see them this month, the release said. The officers have a limited amount of coupons for free McDonald's sandwiches and ice cream cones.
"We're thrilled to participate in No-Shave November again," said Acting Chief Russ Closs. "Our officers are able to have a little fun while raising awareness and funding for a very important cause. It's all part of our community policing plan."
Other police departments participating in No-Shave November include the Hilltown Township and Pennridge Regional departments. Donations to the Hilltown Township Police Department officers or team can be made through a link posted on the department's crimewatchpa.com page. Donations to the Pennridge Regional Police Department officers or team can be made at no-shave.org/team/PennridgeRegionalPoliceDepartment.
Information is also available through the participating departments.
