ROXBOROUGH >> Family owned specialty grocery store and deli T & F Farmers’ Pride is known for its friendly service — and its Italian hoagies.

The store has operated at its 8101 Ridge Ave. location since it opened in 1988. In March, the business will celebrate its 30-year anniversary.

Owner Tony DeLizzio started the business after the now-defunct local store Farmer’s Choice, where he had previously worked, closed. T & F Farmers’ Pride started out as a smaller store focused mainly on selling fresh produce.

Several years after opening, it was expanded to double its original size. The store began selling cold cuts and ,eventually, the hoagies for which T & F Farmers’ Pride is known.

T & F Farmers’ Pride is a family business, operated by Tony, his wife, Ilena DeLizzio, and their children, Bianca and Anthony DeLizzio. Bianca and Anthony both grew up spending a lot of time in the store, and as teenagers, they started working as cashiers. In recent years, both have taken on more active roles in managing the store.

Today, the store offers an array of “delicious Italian goodies” that are harder to find at other stores, Bianca said. T & F Farmers’ Pride sells homemade deli salads, fresh ravioli and sauces, fresh grated cheese, fresh bread and treats like Pizzelle cookies, which are available year-round.

T & F Farmers’ Pride sources its products from several local companies, such as Marchiano Bakery, PTG Catering, DiBruno Bros., P&S Ravioli and Conshohocken Italian Bakery.

Of all of the items available at the store, the Italian hoagie is the crowd favorite, Bianca said. The hoagies are made to order using fresh-cut meat. Also available is the popular hoagie dip, which is also made from scratch.

“People love it. It’s everything in our awesome Italian hoagie, minus the bread,” Bianca said.

The store has several longtime employees, some whom have been with T & F Farmers’ Pride since the beginning. Even some kids of employees have worked at the store as well. Happy workers have helped to create a warm and familial atmosphere for customers, the DeLizzios said.

“We’re welcoming and friendly,” Anthony said, adding, “Everyone seems like they want to work here. We blow people’s expectations out of the water.”

The friendly service at T & F Farmers’ Pride has resulted in many regular and longtime customers, with many having shopped at the store as long as it’s been open.

“Our customers are everything. They’re the reason we’re still here,” Anthony said.
