SOUDERTON — Mother and daughter Salon Bella & Co. owners Michele and Tarah Isabella say they love to make people happy and feel good about themselves.

"We just wanted to bring that to as many people as we possibly could," Tarah Isabella said. "We also wanted a space where we could offer more than just hair. We wanted to offer our clients a full salon experience where they can, if they want to, come and spend the day with us and get a massage and a facial and have their hair done."

An open house for the business at 303 E. Broad Street in Souderton that opened Jan. 2 was held Sunday, Feb. 9. There was a ribbon cutting hosted by Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 5.

"We do hair, massage therapy, facials and skin care," said Michele Isabella.

The building previously had a nail salon in front with an apartment in the back and upstairs, Tarah Isabella said.

"We came in and completely remodeled everything," she said.

This is the first time she and her mother, who owned another salon for 24 years, are in business together, she said, but it's been a longtime goal.

Tarah's sister and Michele's daughter Courtney Isabella, for whom the Indian Valley Soap Box Association's Courtney Isabella Memorial Sportsmanship Award is named, died at age 11 in 2005.

"After that, we just kind of decided that we needed to stick together as a family," said Tarah Isabella, who won the IVSBA stock division in 2002 and the super stock division in 2007.

"We just always had a dream of opening a business together," she said, "and we have finally been able to do it."

They chose the location for the business because they like the area and the community feel, she said.

The name of the business comes from a combination of factors, the two owners said.

"Bella" comes from their last name and means "beautiful," Michele Isabella said.

The "& Co." includes the rest of the staff, Tarah Isabella said.

"We just wanted everyone to be included in the name, not just the two of us," she said. "We're really fortunate to have a great group of employees." Including her and her mother, there are seven people on the staff, she said.
