HILLTOWN — Joey Calabretti dominated with the fastball and was also ready for one when he had a bat in his hand, as the right hander led Deep Run to a 9-2 victory over Plymouth Whitemarsh Tuesday night.

"I felt pretty good. Warm-ups were probably the most important. They felt really nice and I knew it was gonna be a good game from there," Calabretti said of his winning performance on the mound, as he struck out 10 batters in his six innings of work.

Calabretti also doubled and homered to help raise Deep Run's record to 9-6-1, with a home game against first-place Upper Moreland set for Thursday at 6 p.m.

In addition to his 10 K's, Calabretti allowed just two earned runs off of three hits. He held PW (8-8, host Doylestown Thursday at 7 p.m.) without a hit all the way until the fifth, when Luke Caucci singled to right.

"I was kind of mad I gave up the hit — it ruined the no-hitter," Calabretti said.

He didn't allow much else, mixing in an effective curveball to keep the visitors scoreless until the sixth. Luke Gartland and Gavin Rocks had RBI singles for PW to slice the margin to 4-2.

But Calabretti got his 10th and final strikeout to end the sixth, then brought a mighty swing to the plate in the bottom half.

"I knew it was coming — it was a 3-1 count," Calabretti said. "I was expecting a fastball right down the middle."

Smashing a solo homer to left, Calabretti extended the Deep Run lead to 5-2. Nick Rosica and Christian Browning also drove in runs as the lead ballooned to 9-2.

Momentum is building for the blue team.

Said Calabretti: "I hope we win the next game — it could put us up to the No. 2 seed (for the league playoffs)."

A ground ball by Browning allowed a run to race home in the first to give Deep Run the early edge. The lead doubled to 2-0 in the second on a sac fly by A.J. Neher. John Nichols came off the bench to drive in a pair with a double in the fifth, providing a 4-0 advantage.

Asked what he likes most about this team, Calabretti said: "The family that we have. We all work together. We always have a team effort.

"I feel like if we all come together, we could win it all."
