When Cam Reddish was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2019 NBA Draft, he stood on stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. and held open hit suit jacket, revealing the blue ‘N’ for Norristown.
Even after moving to Atlanta, Reddish and his family keep Norristown in their thoughts. This month, the Reddishes partnered with ShopRite to donate food in support of Norristown Community Food Banks. The FEED THE NEED program donated 20,000 meals from Dec. 10-15.
“I come from a close knit family that taught me to always remember where I come from,” Reddish said. “Norristown is an integral part of my story. It’s where I grew up, where I was raised and as I continue to grow throughout my career, it’s my goal to help the community grow as well. This year has been incredibly challenging and it’s humbling to be in a position where I can use my platform to give back to a town that gave so much to me.”
“We were really, really excited to be able to partner with ShopRite and give back to our hometown, our Norristown community,” Dr. Zanthia Reddish, Cam’s mother, said. “It’s really, really important to Cam and we’re just excited to be a part of anything that’s going to help out Norristown. We never forget. Even though our family has re-located to Atlanta as Cam’s been drafted to the Hawks, we always keep Norristown near and dear to our heart.”
Cam and Zanthia decided to do this program after talking about how difficult this year has been for families and looking for ways to give back. They reached out to ShopRite to support families in need during the holiday season.
CamFam and ImpowerEDD matched every dollar donated to the FEED THE NEED program.
“That is such a blessing,” Zanthia Reddish said of the 20,000 meals raised. “We were talking about this and all the loss and everything (during the pandemic). We were talking about how fortunate and blessed (Cam) is to be in the position to be able to give back. I think it’s awesome of the Norristown community that they stepped up and contributed as well so that we could so it as a concerted effort to really bless others. We thought together as a family – what a blessing it is to be a blessing and give back. Twenty-thousand meals is amazing. We could not be happier with the support that we’ve gotten from the community. We’re prayerful that we can continue being able to support Norristown going forward.”
CamFam represents everyone who was been there for Cam Reddish during his basketball journey, including the Norristown community.
ImpowerEDD is the Reddish family business that helps families learn how to navigate school systems and athletic programs. They provide information, support and resources to families of student-athletes to ensure that they are prepared to be successful at the next level.
This food collection was part of the Lt. Patty Simmons Annual Food Drive. Zanthia Reddish will be coming to Norristown Dec. 23 for the food drive parade.
