SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Township Middle School Service Club has completed two major projects this school year.
This fall, the club conducted Operation Maximize Winter Wear, in which members collected winter clothing for Emlen Elementary School in Mt. Airy. The club collected 103 coats, 42 hats, 18 pairs of gloves, 15 scarves, seven pairs of snow pants, three ear muffs and two pairs of snow boots for a total of 190 items.
Next, through Operation Paws for a Cause, the club collected items needed at the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Members collected 135 items, including cat food, dog food, towels, hamster bedding, blankets and cleaning supplies. Items were delivered in February.
The club is now planning its annual Day of Service event. Seventh- and eighth-grade students will travel to organizations to volunteer, while sixth-grade students will stay on campus and participate in a variety of activities, with a culminating flea market for the entire school!
All proceeds from this year's activities will benefit the MIP Foundation.
